Carving foam just got easier with the Sculpting Tool; one of the most crucial foam shaping tools today, thanks to its versatility. The wire can be used at 7.5" with the arms fully extended or can be shortened to 5.5" for a faster cut. The arms pivot for making negative cuts or can be held taught for scroll cutting.

This tool is very popular for carving mountains and shaping designs. Shape 3D Styrofoam sculptures, carve village display platforms and more. Start sculpting Styrofoam the right way with the Sculpting Tool; a hand-held foam cutting scroll saw, carving tool and so much more!

Consider adding the Wire Tensioner accessory in the dropdown above to hold the wire taut while sculpting. If you already have a Sculpting Tool and need a Wire Tensioner, click here.

Made and supported in the USA. Covered by a 90 day factory warranty. If it stops working due to a defect, we will repair or replace it at no charge.

This simple well made tool was so handy, that I was able to complete an entire life size horse head and neck sculpture using only this tool, and some sandpaper for the finishing details! And that was the first time I ever used it. You can take off nice flat sections and go right into removing indented and shaped areas just by easing up the tension with your fingers. Makes nice clean removal without the burnout or melting of the surface that you get with a hot knife. I put the fine details in with sandpaper and this tool left the surface in perfect shape to use sandpaper on. The hot knives tend to leave a melted hard surface that is impossible to sand but this hot wire left no melting behind! This is a "must have" tool for me from now on! Thanks to all the folks at the Hot Wire Foam Factory for answering all my questions and shipping it out so quickly.

I bought this product to sculpt a village display. As a novice, I found this tool extremely easy to use. It did everything I needed it to. It is very well-made, and I expect to purchase more of the products in this line.

Leif Swenson, 06-05-2018

This tool is pretty cool for sculpting almost anything but i realized that I will need more hot tools to accomplish different cuts and effects. I am a little bit dissapointed that this tool didnt come with the black plastic piece that prevents the wire from moving. No matter how hard i try to keep the line taught, those two screws holding the metal forks continues to loosen resulting in a wavy cut. I really had to try hard not to cut too deep into the foam since im carving brick pattern out of 1 inch thick eps foam sheets. I would buy more tools from hotwire and perhapes even the hard coating for foam if the prices on tool kits werent so expensive.

Dave Rapien, 06-11-2018

The tool works great. Used it to carve a design for a tombstone and had it done in minutes.

Jim Seroskie, 06-21-2018

Works as advertised.

Brenda Schold, 09-11-2018

I love this tool - I bought one as part of a 3 piece kit 12 years ago and used it for a ton of different projects. I made a coffin and crypt for the yard and also bases and mountains for a Halloween village. The original stopped working so I immediately ordered a replacement because i can't live without it.

Butch Beckmann, 09-20-2018

Love it!

Frank Bennett, 11-20-2018

Great product! Loved being able to quickly catch on to how to best use this tool for sculpting. Changing wires is easy. I guess now I'll be springing for the one that has the controllable thermostat and heavier wire. I've not had this much fun in ages!

Sandra Ables, 11-02-2018

I love my hot wire foam cutter! It's very easy to use.

Bryce Gorrell, 11-13-2018

I use this tool for sculpting pink insulation foam. It does an excellent job. It has a generous length of cord and is very light in weight, allowing great ease of use. The wire heats and cools almost instantly, making it very safe to use.

Robert Archer, 11-18-2018

Perfect tool for sculpting my village pieces exactly how I want them to be!!! I love this tool!!!

Warren Peiter, 01-06-2019

Just what I needed to further my Mountain Scenery work. Was able to cut down foam slab edges much faster than using my foam rasp tool.

Then I followed up with the rasp to blend the edges to a smooth slope.

I also narrowed the arms to make a sharper wire loop to carve out a ditch and pond into the flat foam base layer.

Jay Turner, 01-13-2019

The Sculpting Tool works extremely well. The thin wire allows me to follow my sketched contours well. I tested and found that the wire is instantly cool once the power is off, thus allowing me to set the tool down immediately after use.

The following are tips about my cutting observations. I prepare my stance so that I can cut continuously once I start. I brace at my elbow and let my arm, wrist, and fingers give me the finesse to follow my sketched outline. If I find I need to shift my elbow to move my cut further or nearer, the shift shows up as a jitter in my cut. Just thumbing off the switch while in the cut is not much help. The wire is then frozen in the foam. It does allow me to reposition, but I have to begin moving immediately when I turn on the power.

Suggestions for documentation:
1) Indicate that the tool is cool to the touch immediately.
2) I worried about wrapping the wire around the arms of the tool since the instructions talked about not letting the wire be shorter than 5 or so inches. But it seems the wrapped ends don't overheat.
3) Reiterate that if you feel drag when you cut, then slow down and let the foam melt instead of forcing the wire through the foam.
4) Note that once the wire is bent, if you want perfectly straight cuts, a tensioner is needed. I am able to use my other hand and spread the arms to increase tension, but I don't know if that would be recommended due to safety concerns.
5) I'm still unclear about cleaning the wire. I pass a paper towel over it quickly, but worry that the wire will just burn it and deposit more material on the wire. Please make cleaning instructions a little clearer.
6) If you cut horizontally, note that the melted upper surface may reseal on the melted lower surface and render your cut somewhat moot.
7) Reiterate, again, to cut in a ventilated area as the fumes make me nauseous and are probably dangerous.

Great and clean for cutting foam. Very good for carving rivers for dioramas

Catherine Brown, 02-24-2019

Better than expected. The wire heats up and cools down very quickly. Only the wire gets hot which is fantastic.

My husband absolutely loves this! So glad i got it for him!

Cindy Wortman, 03-22-2019

Very happy with this!

Janet , 10-23-2019

Purchased 4 in 1 kit on a Friday used minimal by Monday it didn’t heat. 2 days it lasted, I was working on a large project and had to finish with the router. I had used a Chinese $50.00 hot wire cutter that worked for 3 weeks, so when it stopped working I thought I would purchase a better quality product, it clearly wasn’t! This product is very cheaply made, the wires coming out of the units are equivalent to the ones on the made in china hot wire cutters. I purchased this item because of the great reviews it received. I’m very unhappy with the product. I sent an email to the company telling them what happened That was over a week ago still no reply.

Diane Winston , 12-07-2021

Purchased the sculting tool online. I received the product promptly by mail without a power cord!
Now entire order will need to be returned.
How can you send a product without the power source.
