I have
spent the last 12 years making foam models of toys. I have included pictures
of the foams and of the finished toy. The foam models are used as preliminary
prototypes during the early stages of the development process. They are
also used as volume studies for packaging. I work from drawings, sketches
and input from the designers. My models help them visualize their ideas
and I can make them quicker than if I had to sculpt them in a harder medium.
It saves the company time and money before going to the next step of making
a hard working model. Most of the time my models will accompany the engineer's
drawings sent to china to be used as a reference for tooling of the actual
toy for manufacture. That's pretty much it. I make a good living working
in foam and I enjoy doing it.
