Back to Model RR Gallery TRAIN TERRAIN By Chris Darling Natural looking rocks and other terrain are fast and easy to achieve with the Hot Wire Sculpting Tool. Just stick some chunks of foam on your layout and start carving. Usually the more random you cut the more natural the results. You can always cut away pieces that you don't like, and hot glue in new chunks. The wire blade can be looped outward to cut valleys. Just bring the arms about three inches apart and push the slack wire blade outward. Let the heat do the cutting. If you cut at the right speed the wire blade hardly touches the foam, it just melts it in its path. Use the Engraving Tool or Hot Knife to make holes for wires. Hot Tip: Mix some Foam Coat into a thick paste to fill in gaps and glue lines. Then add more water until the paste become thin enough to apply with a brush. Brush over the whole surface to create a rocklike texture before painting and adding other landscape materials.
