This is a fun way to add cracks and other details into the foam also can cut the edges well

I use this tool in making Christmas Village displays. It cuts through 2 inch foam like it was butter, and is especially handy when cutting out holes in the center of a sheet of styrofoam. The shorter length (vs. the 8 inch version) allows for easy maneuvering to create details using either the side or tip of the heated rod.

I own just about all the hotwire items. Out of all the items this one is probably my favorite. Because it is my favorite it got used the most. The one flaw I found is that it can bend and break at the base of the wire and it is not a replaceable part. Therefore renders the product useless at that point.

This is the best to cut thru foam with precision.

Robert Heidebrecht, 05-25-2018

Great little tool. Just finished working on a set for the camp I work at and it is perfect to use along with the right angle mount that keeps my cuts pretty close to 90 degrees.

I recently ordered the 4-inch hot knife, and I am not disappointed. I used the knife to put holes through thick foam board, and it worked great. I look forward to doing sculpting with it as well.

Works awesome!

After destroying a 4" craft knife, I bought a 6" hot knife kit. The 6" knife works beautifully for very heavy cutting and carving.

I have a bigger Pro Knife, but find this one is better for situations that require a stiffer blade.

Steven Wesolowski, 12-14-2021

Purchased the 4 inch hot knife kit. Started to use the knife to cut through 1.5" styrofoam. The thin round steel blade which heats up was extremely flimsy at its base where it was crimped into the base of the unit. I knew right of way that this was not going to holdup for long once I started to use it. I had to continuously bend the hot steel blade to straighten it out. Within 15 minutes of use the thin round blade broke apart exposing the thin heating wire. That was the end of the hot knife. It would appear that someone might of deliberately bend the thin round steel tube at this base to weaken the hot cutting blade. Very disappointed.
