Can this hot wire cutter be used on Ethafoam?

Etha Foam is a brand name for polyethylene. Our Bow Cutter will easily cut up to 1.7lb density polyethylene foam. It will cut somewhat slowly in the 4-foot mode, and fairly fast in the 2-foot mode.
We are always happy to test a sample piece of foam at no charge, while there is a restocking charge if you return a tool that doesn't work for your application.

i work for a plastering company and we cut 3 inch by 48 inch foam a lot . will this bow be able to handle a 40 hour work week constantly cutting foam. how many hours of heat do your wires last.
All of our foam cutting tools are made for continuous use. The 4-Foot Bows are made with sturdy materials like aluminum and brass, and there are few moving parts, so there is very little to wear out. The power supply might have to be occasionally replaced, but they are very robust and have overload protection. We build the Bows in our own shop, so if something goes wrong we can fix our tools for a nominal charge. Some people never have replace the wires while others seem to need a new pack every month or two. They don't wear out if you let the heat do the cutting and always remember to take the tension off of wire before turning the power off. when you turn the heat on the wire stretches about 1/2" so you have to rotate the arms to take up the slack. If you forget to loosen the arms, relieving the tension, then the wire will get super taught and will eventually break.
Does this 4 foot bow cutter actually measure 4 foot wide or is it wider and able to cut 4 foot boards. Our EIFS boards are 4 foot wide and we like to run the wire down rods to make a even cut so we need the opening of the bow to be at least 49 inches.
The distance between the arms when the wire is tensioned is about 49.5".
Can I use your tools to trim polyurethane insulation spray foam?
We have many contractors using our Bow Cutters to cut PU spray foam, but, this foam gives off toxic fumes when cut with a hot wire so an appropriate respirator and plenty of ventilation are necessary.

I wanted to say I can attest to the fact that the hot wire bow works when it is 28 degrees out. It wasn't much fun - but it worked!

The extensive number of tools offered by HWFF provides something to meet every advanced need. I couldn’t be productive without the full series of cutting knives in various lengths and rigidity. The scroll table provides detailed precision cuts that defy imagination…and the Free Hand Router gives one the ability of a sculpting tool but with the rigid ability to make strong, authoritarian cuts and designs. But perhaps my favorite is the Bow Cutter. This tool provides superb enjoyment in cutting through massive amounts of foam and in providing huge landscape and terrain opportunities. It is adjustable to handle smaller jobs or huge endeavors. Once a better skill and confidence level is achieved, I highly recommend it to round out the pro series of tools and capabilities of HWFF.

My primary passion is building and instructing on massive, running dioramas that capture the imagination with extensive carving techniques. I have been collecting Department 56 Christmas Villages since 1995 due to my childhood following of Dickens and Victorian London. The Original Seven Shops of Dickens remain my favorite of the collection with their history and nostalgic past. I have always been very active in the National Council of Clubs, having held offices in my past club in Albuquerque for 18 years. I designed and maintained store displays throughout Albuquerque in five gift stores since 2001 and conducted countless seminars to store customers and club members explaining the “how to of my displays. I recently relocated to Tulsa and am now a member of the Oklahoma Village Collectors Club. I have presented seminars at several NCC Gatherings through the years, including Minneapolis, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. I was hired by Department 56 as one of their National Display Artists and have created showroom displays at their headquarters, One Village Place in Eden Prairie MN, Columbus, Seattle, and Denver. I have made two instructional DVDs for Hot Wire Foam Factory, which are sold nationally~~the most extensive being the 90-minute Building An Epic Village Display. I have been published in Village D-Lights for my work and have also created countless other displays in private homes and other retail establishments nationally.

Works great. We use it in our shop that we make custom Concrete Sinks and Concrete Countertops at www.DreamCreteCC.com Thanks

Maria Barbara Cartier, 05-03-2017

The 4 foot bow cutter is a great tool for sculpting my work. But there are 2 things I found not practical:

-the box with the voltage is very uncomfortable. It is half the way of the cable length and interferes when I need to move and keep my both hands in the bow. It kind of pulls down with its own weigh and unplugs itself from the bow. The first times it also messed on my way and burnt part of the cable. This box should be closer to the plugging in the wall to allow more freedom of move.
- the cable is very short
This is such a great tool I hope you improve it soon! Thank you.

I have had this for years now and it has become an invaluable part of my tool box. I use it to cut large blocks of polystyrene into smaller ones. It cuts accurately and quickly and is a perfect tool for this sort of work. I also use it to start sculpting landscapes for my gaming tables. It must be 10years old now and has been one of my best buys in all those years.

Digger Feeney, 03-16-2018

Outstanding product and fast delivery! This Hot Wire tool is easily adaptable and very professional. It worked perfectly cutting through a 4’x2’x14’ shape. Thank you!

Richard Williams, 05-24-2018

Great tool, already used to cut foam for door skins.

Justin Price, 08-31-2018

Great tool for larger cuts on big projects.

Jedi Joe, 08-16-2021

Getting used to it. In my small shop I figured out perfect 2nd hand holder for the bow...either size. Rockwell jawstand xp. 5 stars pair the 2 if your working solo.

Edward A, 07-14-2022

The 4ft bow works well. Power supply is garbage. It broke after about 5 hours of use. Ironically, it states on the back, 'For industrial use only.'
