I own just about all the hotwire items. Out of all the items this one is probably my favorite. Because it is my favorite it got used the most. The one flaw I found is that it can bend and break at the base of the wire and it is not a replaceable part. Therefore renders the product useless at that point.
We have been building props and costumes for about 4 years. We use a variety of materials including EVA foam and pink insulation foam on many of our projects.
A problem with using pink insulation foam is that it is very fragile and many paints and adhesives eat through it.
We built a large 10' tall Reinhardt axe (From the game Overwatch) out of insulation foam and were able to keep it light weight and add durability by using the Foam Coat. For additional strength we added Boost to the All Purpose Foam Coat in place of water.
We liked the additional strength the Boost gave the foam, it was very durable and remained light weight. We applied the coat with a brush and had a bit more texture then we really wanted. Unfortunately, Boost makes the foam almost unsandable. In the future we would try applying it with a trowel or a hopper gun as suggested on the bottle.

We have used this hot knife for many projects including armor, prop weapons, giant claws, and more!
When we begin a project requiring pink insulation foam, we always use the 8" or 6" Pro Hot Knife to cut out our basic shapes.
The 8" knife is useful on thicker foams. The blade is durable even when you apply too much pressure from time to time while cutting. It will bend but has yet to break.
We originally used the standard Hot Knife and ended up breaking that blade. We would recommend using the Pro versions for sure!

After cutting out basic shapes in insulation foam with the 6" or 8" Pro Hot Knife, we use the Freehand Router to refine and sculpt the foam. The Router is perfect for both organic and precise shapes.
The ability to bend the wire allows you to make any shape you need. From large curves to tiny trenches, really anything you can think of! We've used it to make armor that resembled bone, dagger blades, a huge axe and even creature claws!
Ever since I started using Foam Fusion I realized we are living in the Golden Age of Glue. This stuff is so strong, versatile and easy--nothing compares. I also appreciate the fact that there are no fumes. I've been using it to attach wood parts to foam and in the one instance that a tiny wood piece was knocked off a foam sculpture-it came off 1/4" into the foam it was attached to--meaning--the fusion was total....this was not a problem with the glue. I would highly recommend this for anyone gluing foam, and foam to wood or other porous surfaces.
