This tool works brilliantly! Heats up within seconds and is ready to use. It engraves smoothly and flawlessly! I would 100000% reccomend making a template before engraving instead of freehanding. Once hot it works so smoothly and even a second of extra pressure will make a noticeable difference. Overall easy to use!
I would reccomend that Hotwire foam factory make more of these tools, that are sturdy and short, but with varying thicknesses for different projects. I found this tip to be rather thick, as I work on a miniature scale, and could really benifit from a thinner tip, like in calligraphy how you can change the tips according to what you need!
Other than that, brilliant and handy tool overall!!
This tool is used for all my insulation board carvings for my Dept 56 village displays. I love that I can bend the wire to make very intricate cuts. This is a must have for any hobbyist who collects and displays their Dept 56 pieces.
The only problem I have had with this and the other hand sculpting tools is the on and off switch tends to overheat and stop working and then needing replaced otherwise the tools are perfect.
I have nothing but praise for Hot Wire Foam Factory and its products. All work amazingly well, but I LOVE the Freehand Router! It's flexible nature allows me to custom make the shape of the cut. It's so fast and easy. You have a customer for life!
This product has turned out to be one of my favorites from this company! I build custom portable indoor/outdoor pond/pond-less waterfalls. No part takes more than 2 people to carry. This means that parts will sit on top of each other and need to have a seamless look. With this product I have found it allows my seams to give a little which resulted in them maintaining the tight fit and I have no more chipping. It gives me more confidence in my finished products and their ability to remain stable and beautiful!
