Boost Liquid Fortifier

Bulletproof foam? Not yet, but this is about as close as you will get!

When Boost liquid fortifier is mixed with our Foam Coat it makes it incredibly strong and weatherproof, plus makes it stick to almost anything! Typical proportion for Boost to dry mixture:

Instructions:

Amount of Boost Amount of Foam Coat
1 Gallon Boost (128oz) 50 lbs Foam Coat
2 Quart Boost (64oz) 25 lbs Foam Coat
8 oz Boost 3 lbs Foam Coat

MIXING: New formula does not require dilution. It’s okay to mix water with Boost, but that will diminish Boost’s strength. Start with 1 part liquid to 3 parts Foam Coat, and thin or thicken as desired. Thinning the Foam Coat with more Boost will not weaken it.

APPLYING: Fill large cracks and holes with pasty mixture. To coat large areas, add more liquid until thin enough to apply with a paint brush. May be applied as thick as 1/4 inch, but multiple coats are stronger. Try texturing surface before coating sets.

SET TIME: Use within 20 minutes. Sets hard in 1-2 hours. Maximum bond and hardness in 24 hours.

CLEAN-UP: Immediately clean tools and brushes with soapy water. Boost cannot be removed once dry.

FINISHING: May be painted or stained.

Suggested Dilutions Boost:Water
It's best to use at 100% for maximum added adhesion and strength, but can be diluted up to 50% with water.

Hello, I am using two part expanding polyurethane foam to cast garden sculptures rather than cement. The purpose is so clients who cannot hoist an 800 lb piece of work can still have one in their garden. Would you recommend the Exterior Foam Coat for this? I see the Boulder Image gallery where they have done similar work and it appears to be holding up to lots of moisture and use. Any tips on getting it sticky enough for this type of foam or will mixing it with Boost be enough? Only problem is its glossy and doesn't have much tooth.

Hi Ron, People who have been using the two part expanding polyurethane foams like Great Stuff can't get our coatings to stick too well. Probably because they are waterproof. Several customers have recently tried adding Boost to All Purpose and to Exterior Foam Coat with one reporting back that they adhered well. I can't vouch for this as I haven't tried it myself.

Note that subsequent layers do not need Boost. If you go thicker than 1/8" with Boost you could get some surface fissures. We have applied up to 1/2 thick layers of straight Exterior Foam Coat with no cracking.

One of the most difficult parts of coating foam is getting the first layer to leave the brush to go onto the foam, so, yes, hopper-spraying at least the first coat on to give some 'tooth' to the next layer is a smart technique. Pancake batter thickness seems to work well in our hopper guns. We, and many of our customers, have made very strong realistic boulders out of the inexpensive white beaded EPS foam rather than that toxic and hard to work with polyurethane foam.

We have been building props and costumes for about 4 years. We use a variety of materials including EVA foam and pink insulation foam on many of our projects.

A problem with using pink insulation foam is that it is very fragile and many paints and adhesives eat through it.

We built a large 10' tall Reinhardt axe (From the game Overwatch) out of insulation foam and were able to keep it light weight and add durability by using the Foam Coat. For additional strength we added Boost to the All Purpose Foam Coat in place of water.

We liked the additional strength the Boost gave the foam, it was very durable and remained light weight. We applied the coat with a brush and had a bit more texture then we really wanted. Unfortunately, Boost makes the foam almost unsandable. In the future we would try applying it with a trowel or a hopper gun as suggested on the bottle.

Did not make the foam hard - it made it harder - but I thought that this would add a hard coat to the foam. You can still press fingers into the foam easily after applying the coating with the correct boost mix.

Boost, when used in conjunction with All Purpose Foam Coat both indoor and outdoor helps make application smoother and controllable. I use their products including their hot wire foam sculpting tools to make dioramas for educational venues. Great products, you should try them!
